Did Students Allowed to Bring Mobile Phone to School
Indirectly, this communication technology brings various
advantages for its users. Especially in the field of education and education,
has shown its role as a medium or information-based learning tool. One of the
most commonly used information technologies is mobile phone. Mobile phones are
used by almost all people in this world, from every age level. Mobile phone can access the internet which
allows searching for complete information already in your hand. We might be find any information
anywhere and anytime without wasting time. It is so simple, just by ‘one click’
in our mobile phone, the information that is being searched for will appear on the mobile phone
screen. Well, it might be
information about science, about technology, news and so forth. Mobile phones
invade the lives of everyone, including students. Most schools in Indonesia
forbid students to bring mobile phones to school. However, not a few schools
that allowed the students to bring mobile phones, with various requirements.
This problem seems to be
debating among the people. Most people agree that cellphones are prohibited
from going to school. But some also think that bringing mobile phones to school
should be allowed. There are several reasons why students should be allowed to
bring mobile phones to school.
The first reason is that mobile phone can be used to help students
learn at school. Mobile phone can
be used as a medium for student learning at school. It looks like a very big issue for the allowed of bringing
mobile phone to school. Students and teachers can open sites that possible
to support the teaching and learning process. The teacher can also use applications that possibly make it easy to deliver the subject matter.
Students can use mobile
phones as a source of knowledge without limits. If students find difficult
material, students can
immediately look for references through the internet found on their mobile
phone. The teacher must guide
students to use the mobile phone to be a source of student insight. Mobile phone open
up a world to access facts and idea. If a student needs to find a word, a
search on the internet will
quickly return the definition and thousands of other pages with related
content. When it comes to a language study, mobile phone may use to be a media for learning. For example, when the
students need to listen the material for the listening section, they can use their mobile phone.
It will help the students
hear it clearly and become more understand about the material. Mobile phone might
be very useful to help students to study in school.
The next reason is that by bringing a cell phone to
school, parents can
communicate easily with their children, and students can easily contact their parents when there is a change in
schedule that requires students to leave early or later. Parents can also directly contact their
children at school if important and sudden things happen, such as accidents and
so on. If students do not carry cell phones, parents should contact the school
office. This is a waste of time, because the room of the teacher assembly or
administration could be in a busy
condition. In addition, telephone damage can
occur at the school which will make it more difficult for parents to contact
the school. So, if the students allowed to bring mobile phone, their parents don’t
need to call the school for a sudden thing.
The last reason is
preventing fraud. Lately there have been a lot of frauds in the name of school
students. There are so many scams that occur related to students at school. An
example is a fraudster contacting the parents of certain students and informing them that their child is in
an accident and needs medical expenses. Fraudsters ask parents to send a certain amount of money to the
account for the cost of treatment for the accident's child. If a parent doesn't
think too much because he is too panicked to hear the news, then of course he will immediately send the amount
of money requested by the offender. If the student brings a cellphone, the
parents easily contact and confirm the child's condition. The rise of fraud
that drags the name of students at this school can be reduced if the student is allowed to bring a
cellphone to school. This can
be easily overcome and beneficial for both parents and children. For this
reason, by bringing a cellphone to school, parents might be more comfortable about their child's situation
because it will be easier to
contact.
The use of mobile
phones has positive and negative impacts for each user. Especially the use or acquisition
of bringing mobile phones to school. We believe
that mobile phone can give positive impact for students. Basically, the proper
use of mobile phones at school can
provide a variety of benefits for students, teachers and parents. Teachers can also easily use applications
that are available to support learning. A positive impact will lead students to
easy access to learning and obtain information. The ability to bring cellphones
by students to school can
also provide benefits for parents. Parents can
contact their children who are in school easily if something urgent happens.
The intensity of fraud on behalf of students can also be reduced if parents are able contact their school children easily. However, the
realization of benefits in the use of mobile phones at school cannot be
separated from the role of teachers who must be able to oversee the use of
cellphones by students at school. All related parties must be able to work together to improve the quality of
education in Indonesia.
