Are There So Many Victims of Coronavirus in Italy
Corona virus is a plague that is
being talked about by almost everyone in the world today. This virus is growing
rapidly throughout the world. To date, more than 190 countries with a total
number of victims reaching 781,485 have reported cases of the corona virus.
This virus was first discovered in Wuhan, China in mid-December 2019. After
being discovered, the virus spread very quickly throughout the world. Although found in China, but the most cases of corona
virus actually occur in the United States and then followed by Italy who comes
into the second place. Not only that,
there are 11,591 people that have been died because of this virus in Italy.
This number is very far compared to the number of deaths due to the place that
this virus has been found, China. Which
is, there are only 3,304 people that have been died there. In the
other hand, even if the victims of coronavirus in the United States
reached 162 thousand victims, but only 3 thousand people died. This is
certainly becomes a big question for everyone. Why is the number of victims in
Italy more than this virus origin country that is in China. There are so many
articles that had been discuss about it. There are several reasons that I get
from several sources regarding the reasons for more victims of the corona virus
in Italy.
The
first reason is age
and disease history. 23% of the total population in Italy is aged 65 years and
over. It makes Italy as the country with the second most elderly population
after Japan. This is believed to be a strong reason why many victims from the
corona virus in Italy. Based on data obtained, 85.6% of those who have died due
to contracting this virus are people aged 70 years and over. As we know, a
person's immune system will decrease with age. This causes the elderly more susceptible to disease and
exposure to viruses. Corona virus itself attacks a person from his immune
system, this virus will damage important organs in the body of someone who has
been infected. Because the
victims of corona virus in Italy are mostly elderly, this has caused many
deaths. Elderly people who have weak immune systems are very vulnerable to this
virus. The way in which they code deaths in Italia is very
generous in the sense that all the people who die in hospitals with the
coronavirus are deemed to be dying of the coronavirus. Moreover, disease history also becomes the matter about the deaths
of coronavirus. On re-evaluation by the National Institute of Health, only 12% of
death certificates have shown a direct causality from coronavirus, while 88% of patients who have
died have at least one pre-morbidity - many had two or three. Therefore,
to decrease the victims of coronavirus, the government also keep attention to
elderly and the disease history.
Secondly is that Italy is considered not
responsive in the face of the arrival of this virus, especially the government. After further investigation, the first victim of a corona virus case in Italy was someone
who had just returned from abroad. This victim did not isolate himself after
returning from abroad and during the same time he was still hanging out with
people as usual and transmitting the virus to many people. At that time the victim did not show any symptoms, and the
government still underestimated this virus, so no examination was carried out after he returned from
abroad. This was allegedly the root of the problem of the widespread spread of
the corona virus in Italy. Even after the case of the virus is the most topic
that had been discussed in this worldwide, people in Italy still interact as
usual. It makes the virus can easily to contagious to many people. Italy
considered complacent and not ready in the face of this plague attack. Though the government should
have reminded its citizens to be social distancing, but the Italian government was late to doing that.
The
last thing about it
is medical personnel without adequate personal protective equipment. In the
city that have the most victims of coronavirus in Italy, Lombardy, several
doctors who fought against the corona virus worked without using personal
protective equipment. This is very unfortunate because those who come down
directly in the fight against this virus and they are also the ones who have
the potential to be exposed to this virus. According to reports, more than
4,000 medical workers in Italy have been exposed to this corona virus. This is
what causes corona virus patients to increase.
Coronavirus is not a thing that we
can ignore. We must put all of our attention and also our effort to attack this
virus. Young people can become infected without showing symptoms
and transmit it to older people, and travel a lot, can spread the virus even
further in the country. This virus attacks all ages, but what needs to be considered is how this virus can
attack the elderly in Italy fiercely. Therefore, to prevent the
transmission of this virus more and more, then the thing that must be done is
to continue to do social distancing and also physical distribution. Not only that, the
government must also continue to improve the fulfillment of personal protective
equipment for the medical team handling this corona virus case.
